Do I Hear Christmas?

It’s here! I’m so happy to be able to share the video, and the story, for my song “Do I Hear Christmas?” with you.

The story behind the song…

One afternoon, as I was practicing the piano, I played a Cmaj7 chord and thought to myself, “that sounds just like Christmas.” I continued to reflect upon the brilliance of Vince Guaraldi’s music and how, within his composition “Christmas Time Is Here,” he, in essence, created a chordal synonym for the magic of Christmas. After many years now, the opening notes of this nostalgic and well-loved composition, with their rolled nature and melancholic phrasing, iconically herald the approach of this beautiful season of hope and love. What a musical legacy.

Then, as music will happen and based on the above musings, I proceeded to write the song “Do I Hear Christmas?”

I want to wrap her up and make her always stay

So I can have her with me on a rainy day

I can’t believe she’s everything I’m wishing for

A love to warm my life, she’s right outside my door

In this composition, I use Christmas as a metaphor for the gift of love entering our lives and changing the world with its presence. I chose the story of Jamie, our rescue cat, to illustrate the lyrics and share this lovely and inspired musical selection.
